This time of year is special for a variety of reasons.
Spring is a period of rejuvenation, a season that’s especially cherished after endless months of scraping off our cars and yearning for those warm days spent along the shores of Superior. It’s a time for bittersweet endings and exciting beginnings. Semesters conclude. Flowers uncurl. Before long, the sun won’t slink away until the clock has reached double-digits. The Marquette Area Farmer’s Market will return, along with the black flies (the “unofficial state bird of the Upper Peninsula”).
While we await long weekends of sandy toes, humid hikes up Hogsback, and the other incomparable beauties that only come with life in the UP, this becomes a time of reflection. Yes, May is here, but what did last month bring?
April was a lovely, lively, and exciting month for us here at the Landmark!
We celebrated Autism Acceptance & Awareness Month with action! For this month’s mission of giving back, we decided to repeat our “Ruby’s Walk” model of a drink-based donation. Our bartenders concocted “The Missing Piece” (as seen above), a beautifully blue cocktail that resulted in $300 raised for Bay Cliff Health Camp! In addition to this, we were fortunate enough to partner with the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Association (MARESA) to host our first ever Sensory-Friendly Dinner here at the hotel. This included a provided space with modified menus, adjusted stimuli, sensory buckets, and a designated calm space. With their support and guidance, along with the volunteer efforts of Madgoodies Studio, we found ways to make our hotel more accessible for all members of the community and put on a successful event! We’re hoping to do more of these events in the future, so please let us know if this is something you’d be interested in. Thank you to MARESA, Madgoodies Studio, and the wonderful people of this community for your help. We couldn’t have done it without you.
April also included the kickoff to graduation season. Northern Michigan University gained a new class of alma mater, which meant our hotel rooms, restaurants, and event spaces were bustling! Between private parties, celebratory luncheons, and other festivities, business was steady and booming. Our culinary experts created some of the finest food around. Housekeeping extraordinaires kept the hotel spotless while handling mass amounts of check-ins and check-outs. The pressure was high, but our team still went above and beyond.
What do these exhilarating happenings all have in common? A successful outcome driven by people coming together. It’s why we do what we do. There’s nothing like it.
So, what’s next? May ushers in the busy season for our corner of the hospitality world, so we’re gearing up for another thrilling summer. We can’t wait to tell you all about it. Stay tuned for information on upcoming events, our next community outreach project, and more.
In the meantime, don’t forget to snag that fishing license. Wear sunscreen. Be kind. Watch for deer!
